St Albans has a uniquely long historic connection with Islam- Robert of St Albans was a Knight Templar crusader who fought against the Muslims but later embraced Islam. In 1187, he joined Saladin against the Crusaders for the liberation of Jerusalem. Robert married the niece of Saladin but was martyred (inshaaAllah) shortly after the liberation of Jerusalem
